SATURDAY SCHOOL - FULL DAY WORKSHOP

Some of the most compelling film and television stories of our generation were born out of existing work. Adaptations can take many forms. They can be inspired by books, short stories, paintings, music, articles, real life stories, headline news and even social media. But adaptating a piece of work into a film or television show is not just a copy and paste job. It requires understanding what works in the audio visual medium, how to edit the original source material to tell the most compelling story for the screen and how to navigate the legal, intellectual property and copyright issues that arise with adapting existing work. You'll also learn how to identify and evaluate what might make a great piece of adapted work.

Your trainer, Busisiwe Ntintili, is the screenplay writer of the box office hit film Happiness is a Four Letter Word, which she adapted from the novel. She was also Head Writer for the 3rd season of the hit Showmax drama series The Wife, also a book adaptation. She's taught Adaptation Masterclasses at the Durban Film Mart and The Time of the Writer Festivals.
